How Our Training Makes Our Cedar Park & Leander Athletes More Explosive

At Barbell Coalition, we specialize in helping young athletes unlock next-level power, speed, and performance.
One of the most common goals we hear from athletes and parents alike? "I want to be more explosive."
Whether you're sprinting down the field, launching off the block, or exploding off the ground for a jump shot — explosiveness is what separates good athletes from great ones.
Here’s how our training program is designed to make Cedar Park and Leander athletes more explosive than ever before:
We Train for Force AND Speed
Most school programs focus heavily on traditional lifting — back squats, bench presses, etc. While those lifts build general strength, explosiveness comes from the ability to produce force quickly.
At Barbell Coalition, we program movements that emphasize speed-strength and power production. Think:
Trap bar jumps
Weighted jump squats
Medicine ball throws
These movements bridge the gap between strength and speed — which is the key to explosiveness.
We Use Intent-Based Lifting
It’s not just what you lift. It’s how you lift it.
Our athletes are taught to move their weight with maximum intent — whether it’s a 20lb kettlebell or a 200lb trap bar.
This teaches the nervous system to fire faster and recruit more muscle fibers, leading to noticeable improvements in speed, jump height, and first-step quickness.
We Develop the Posterior Chain
Explosive athletes have strong backsides. Hamstrings, glutes, calves, and spinal erectors play a massive role in jumping, sprinting, and cutting.
We prioritize:
Romanian Deadlifts (RDLs)
Nordic curls
Single-leg power movements
Most athletes are quad-dominant when they arrive. We fix that.
We Respect Recovery and Timing
You can’t train for power the same way you train for conditioning. Explosive training requires optimal rest periods, smart programming, and avoiding burnout.
Our workouts are structured with this in mind:
Power movements are done when the athlete is freshest.
We don’t overload volume — we focus on quality reps, not just quantity.
Athletes get rest between sets so they can perform each explosive movement at 90–100% effort.
Cedar Park & Leander Parents: Our Training Will Make Your Child a More Explosive Athlete!
Explosiveness isn’t something you’re either born with or not. It’s a trainable quality — and at Barbell Coalition, it’s something we build on purpose.
If you're a parent of a high school athlete in Cedar Park or Leander, and you're looking for a strength & conditioning program that actually moves the needle on performance — let’s talk.
Your athlete deserves more than just a generic lifting routine. They deserve a program built to unleash their full potential.
