As parents, you want to give your child every advantage in sports.
You make sure they have the right gear, get to practice on time, and show up for extra games and tournaments.
But there’s one area that often gets overlooked — and it’s the one that can set your athlete apart no matter what sport they play: explosiveness.
Explosiveness is the ability to produce force quickly. It’s what allows an athlete to react faster, jump higher, and move more powerfully in every direction.
Here at Barbell Coalition in Cedar Park, our training delivers explosiveness to all athletes, specifically for their sport.
Here's how:

How Explosiveness Transfers to Different Sports
Basketball: The ability to explode off the ground makes a difference in rebounding, blocking shots, and driving to the basket.
Baseball/Softball: A powerful first step out of the batter’s box or a quick burst toward a fly ball can mean the difference between safe or out.
Soccer: Explosive acceleration helps athletes win 50/50 balls and change direction faster than their opponent.
Swimming: A powerful start off the blocks or wall can shave crucial time off a race.
Football: Explosiveness determines how quickly a lineman gets off the ball or how fast a receiver creates separation.
How We Train Explosiveness for Youth Athletes
Explosiveness doesn’t just “happen.” It’s developed through a combination of:
Strength Training – Building a foundation of strong muscles that can produce force.
Plyometrics – Jumping, bounding, and medicine ball throws that teach athletes to apply force quickly.
Speed Training – Sprint mechanics and resisted runs that sharpen acceleration and top speed.
When done correctly, these methods not only make athletes faster and more powerful, but also improve coordination, body control, and injury resistance.

Explosiveness is the Lifeline for Athletic Performance
If you want your child to gain a true edge, training explosiveness should be part of their routine.
It’s not sport-specific — it’s athlete-specific.
And once your child builds it, they’ll see the results everywhere: on the court, the field, the pool, or the track.
